It is funny that someone actually believes the sheriff is "in charge" of the city and county police................the law says, not that we are concerned with facts, that the sheriff is the premier law enforcement official in the county...........he has absolutely no authority over law enforcement officers outside the sheriff's dept..................

These are the types of fables that lead to folks believing only the coroner can arrest the sheriff...............

your choice of words is better, I wasn't trying to actually put him in charge, just to say that he is the top law enforcement officer

What Coolhead has done again is show his stupidity. When called to task by a person who KNOWS, he then throws his game in reverse and trys to agree with the opposite of what he has just posted for the world to see. I asked the question, because I in fact did not know and didn't play like I did. I had already made the point that he was the top elected Law Enforcement officer in the County, but laughed like Hell when Coolhead tried to put him in charge and giving orders to the Rome City Police chief and the Floyd County Police chief, both men with many years of service. Coolhead your posts designed to "bait" people much more experienced and in many cases much smarter are beginning to make you look a lot more foolish than intelligient. I have made by bones in the World, Still doing it. Why don't you try to accomplish something constructive rather than tearing what is left of this site that some enjoy down. Try it you might like it.

To RGS: What in fact is the answer as to why the Sheriff for the last 20 years or so has not been involved in day to day criminal type work? Is this mandated or just an agreement between the top guys. I do remember when Sheriffs were very involved in investigating and arresting criminals.

Joe Adams thought his job was to police.....anyone remember him? Tough old buzzard, but as nice as he could be.

Oh, yes, jj, I certainly do remember "Mr. Joe," which is what everybody called Sheriff Adams, and he was often at crime scenes, just doing his job. It was hard for most of us to accept that anybody else could ever be our sheriff!!

You know, back then it was just an unsaid thing or at least I assumed that he was in charge whenever he was there. Just had that presence about him. I remember seeing him get mad and thinking "glad that is not me". And I have to add, when he put his hand on your shoulder, he was like a Dad talking to you.
