That's because there are so few choices in a good buffet. Ryans, in my opinion, has gone down hill, mainly because of the lack of real competition. Golden Corral would give them more than a run for their money.

Oh, i agree 100%. You would think that if they saw how packed the restaurants here stayed, they would consider opening up a GC here...or whoever owns the rites to it would anyway!

Yes, I've gained MANY pounds eating at Chef Chen. It is very pricey unless you go at lunch ... they charge an arm & leg for crab legs that I don't eat.
Never tried Bojangles buffet, as time contraints prohibit me from getting there after 7 pm.
I love a good salad bar ...

Ryan's is just nasty! Another good reason to have a GC. Wish I knew who owned the rights, we could send them a petition!

It's ROME.
The powers that be are the reason we don't have the following: Steak N Shake, Target, any decent night club, good music venues that present bands other than Buck and Duke, etc...
The people in charge and the people with money say what is and is not appropriate for Rome. I don't believe that will change until these people move on, either to another town or to the great beyond. Guess which one I'm hoping for.

I don't know if I agree with that or not. I know that in some circumstances, that may be the case, but I don't see how they can stop a business like, say Target, from buying property and opening a store there. Seems to me that the companies just don't think they would make money by opening here...

Perhaps, but from what I understand Target was on its way here and then someone changed some zoning something or another and now they're not coming.
Besides, if a certain business does not mesh with what the higher ups like, they will find a way to drive it out.

I think the second walmart getting here first had a little to do with Target changing the plan to come to Rome.

It is Rome and the good ol' boy system in place for them and that word has spread far and wide. Ok.The good ol' certain family system
tex i edited this to add that I only read your reply after i had posted mine. I was reading thru the posts and felt obligated to comment.
OK after reading the entire post,I have to agree with deathmetalmommy. who would have thunk that?

My God this couldn't be more right on. Whoever is running this town only cares for one group and that appears to be the elderly from as far as I can tell. There is absolutely nothing to do in this town. If you're under the age of 70, you're guaranteed to be in for a boring weekend in Rome, Ga.
Anything outside outside of their thinking/beliefs is sure to die. Someone needs to clue them in about this being the 21st century and all.

It's all about money. Those that have it control the town and will continue until someone, somehow lures in bigger money. 2 years ago when Georgia was still rapidly growing I thought it would eventually catch up to Rome, now I am not so sure with the economy in the tubes.
When I left Rome I missed her badly for awhile. I think it was all about family, friends and history. Since I have been here I have found my life to be much more entertaining and practical. To be completely honest with you I think the people are nicer here. Everybody that lives here is from somewhere else. They tend to be friendlier to help establish and build relationships with people. Rome tends to still be very clannish.
As long as old money are the big dogs in town you won't see much change. They have got there expanded Mayberry and want to keep it that way.

Chattanooga had that same problem for years, two families running the town and they almost drove Dupont, one of their biggest employers, out.
