I personally think they should combine the agencies, make things the way the are supposed to be, just wondering what yall's thoughts on the matter are?

Awesome idea...............we need to find three commissioners who want to have absolutely no control over law enforcement in floyd ...............we need to find a sheriff who wants to be held politically responsible for every arrest, ticket, decision to not arrest, investigation, etc....................we need a county manager who will advise the county commission as follows: "It would be a great idea to give up all control over our police officers AND give up any control over their budget..................we need to find police officers who make decisions, not by law, policy, ethics and common sense, but rather based on how their decision affects thr sheriff's re-election chances....................if we can do all that, it will be a great idea..............

the sheriffs office is in charge of the courts and the jail and the warrant service in floyd county as well as serving official papers, and fugitive arrests. im sure they got better things to do than have to deal with the stupid calls that the floyd county police have to respond to, as well as the routine patrol and traffic enforcement duties. there needs to be a separation of different departments, like in many larger communities. atlanta has a sheriffs office, as well as county police(fulton) and the atlanta police, as wellas marta police and the university police.georgia state university. and so far it works..

You really think anything is working right in Fulton County. Sheriff is going to Jail, stole or lost 3 Million. I don't know anybody who goes to Braves games anymore, what with carjacking, murders, rapes and so forth. One of the top crime capitals in the Nation. Nothing works.

Depends. Would it still be a revunue based department? The current commissioners are very upset that ticket revenues are down. They see traffic enforcement as a source of money and ignore compliance.
If we wait a little while we can just hand the keys to the empty building to the sheriff as the officers are still quitting.

County police departments are a dying breed that drains tax payers money. Only 8 left in state of GA... Which goes first, Floyd or Polk?

No Polk...............ok Floyd..........
Ok... They both continue to serve & protect for many more years....
