Well...I do thank people in restaurants, cashiers, the guy who changes my oil, etc...if other people don't, then that's kind of sad. Do I complain to? Of course I do, I'm only human...but I am pleased to say that I am saying "thank you" a heckuva lot more than complaining I am very appreciative to those who work for a living doing these jobs that help make my life easier. We don't see the dispatchers, firemen, policemen, but they are still there working for us, so I see absolutely nothing wrong with thanking them for doing what they do.

georgiafiremedic wrote: toosa, I am not asking for thanks for me, but rather for my brothers and sisters in public safety. I do love my job and while you have a valid point, I have a question or two for you. 1. How many restaurant cooks get up at 3 am in 30 degree weather to go pull an intoxicated driver out of his or her vehicle only to be cursed at, spit on, or worse, assaulted by the person we are trying to save. 2. How many wal mart cashiers do CPR on a baby that they know is not going to live, but they do it anyway to "make sure everything that could be done was done" Yes I realize that I do this job by choice, however, I take great pride in my job and I always try to go out of my way to help people. As I said earlier, I am not looking for thanks for me.
That does deserve a "Thanks" You all do a job that some of us couldn't do. Myself for one, My emotions wouldn't let me.

if I make a mistake that costs the lives of people, I'm subject to criminal prosecution as well as civil litigation... if a police officer makes a mistake that costs lives he's protected under the law, given a vacation with pay pending the investigation and if he's sued, I end up paying
I just dont understand why anyone would complain

From Floydcountyga.org
911 Web Page
Main Operational Objective
The Floyd County E911 Communications Center Objective is not to determine which call should be answered, how it is to be answered, or when it is to be answered.
ALL calls are to be routed directly and immediately to the appropriate agency.

I don't think anyone disputes that the dispatcher screwed up....................I just refuse to pile on..........there are always plenty of people who will do that..............so to RB, bide ur time, take ur lumps, and if (or when) admin goes overboard in an attempt to delight those who hate you any way..........., use the legal means that are in place to smack them back into their places..................

Ok, I want to give my two cents worth. I personally know the dispathcer in question. She has served many years and trained numerous dispatchers in the past. Yes, she and she alone dropped the ball. But what many of the citizens do not know is that since Hugh Atkins died 911 has been a joke. The Director in charge does not have a clue as to what is going on in the dispatch room. Her main objective is where she can get her hair done on every Thursday of the week. 911 has a CAD system that is at best a Pc. of Crap. How Dispatch has gone this far without a disaster is beyond me. The computer system sucks and fails to work 90 percent of the time. Dispatchers have to work shorthanded everyday of the week and worry about the front office threatening them on a daily basis. At some point, someone MUST step up. There are Rookies working there that really needs to be FIRED!!!!!!!!. The very ones that have been rehired by the very one that fired them. 911 has new hires that should not be there........ and when the Director is questioned about this....they are told to "Shut Up" and then worry about being fired. 911 is in a world of s**t........Kevin......... do you not know that the director there is to blame for ALL the problems that have been and that are happening now at 911?. How long does this county's dispatchers have to suffer before someone looks at this department and say hey....... we need a new leader.........the current one does not have a clue.......someone please save them before it's too late. P S ........... They do not pay over time and..... dispatch gives a new meaning to "click"......... the Assistant Director drinks and parties with the hired help and Sgt's and hired help. And there is a major "Click" going on there. If you don't party with the assistant director or the director..........you ain't S**t. At the very least "please" someone get a computer system that floyd county and dispatch can use, right now.........any and all things that go wrong is the Directors problem. She has known for a long time the problems at dispatch and her and Kevin Poe do not give a crap.......save a dime........if you live in Floyd County........demand answers....for right now your 911 center is in dire need of help..........Pay attention.

What an interesting Post. Somebody with a bone to pick, somebody who got fired? or possibly the real mccoy. I have no clue as to where to start, but the names and titles mentioned are interesting. I have b***hed and moaned and groaned about the cost of a new system, but it is the kind of thing that tells me we might need it. One thing is for sure 27 million is one hell of a price. Suggestions?

And if RB get's fired........it's because those that are responsible are too chicken S**t to step up. There are many in that dispatch room way too lazy to do their job........and far too long been allowed to get away with it. I hope Floyd County gets the pansts sued off them. If only Floyd County only knew what a sorry piece of crap they have for a 911 center and what an ignorant person they have running it.......Pray Floyd County.........that is all that is gonna save you now........911 will not!!!!!!!!!!!!

I am truly sorry that an innocent and good man died. I am also sorry that someone made a mistake in their job, but I think that we have forgotten who is to blame here. That PUNK that killed Mr. Davis is to blame. I understand that 911 should have gotten an officer to the other house quicker than what happened, but that NUT was hell bent on hurting people that day and he was going to do it regardless. I bet that the dispatcher in question is having a lot of guilt as it is. I feel that at times guilt alone is enough to make someone crazy. With all of that being said, I did not meant to start anything, so please remeber that.

Oh, and Kevin Poe.........the longer you let ********* run 911 in the ground.........the longer you let her make a fool of you.........Wake up...........911 is in a dire situation....are YOU gonna do any thing about it, or will you let it go to heck in a hand basket???????...........Do you have the nerve???????
Edited to remove persons name. Everyone knows Kevin Poe and he is a public figure so I did not remove his name but please don't post anyone's name or personal information.
Thanks,
Spice

Dangit, You have a very good point, I can think of at least 2 or 3 times since the "NEW" CAD system was installed that it has crashed. What happens if, God forbid, Someone is shot or goes into cardiac arrest or any other true life threatening emergency happens and the system crashes again. Calls have been dropped. Mr. Poe, I sincerely hope that you or a member of your family is not needing help of any kind when this "TOP OF THE LINE" piece of junk decides to lay down and die again.
note: editing to say not needing help. Honest freudian slip?

Maybe you should go to a county commission meeting and tell them what you know about the 911 system. If it is as bad as you say you should go as soon as possible.

MIB, unfortunately the 27 million is for radio communications only (at least that is what i have been led to believe) the SPLOST money will probably not pay for an actual, honest to goodness CAD system.
