This is a post that is my opinion only. As I said if you have something GOOD to say please add it. If you don't put it somewhere else please.I see all these I hate, I don't like, Can you believe? blah, blah, blah. I just wanted to know if anyone has anything good to say? I know people don't like to get tickets. I know that in every situation you are right and they are wrong. But do any of you think about the stress that the officers are under? Making cases, running call to call. Having people being ugly to you all the time. Yes they decided to take the oath. But aren't Police Officers still people? I hear officers saying we can't go anywhere, I mean nowhere with out some one

" hey ain't you the police? Or oooohhh don't take me to jail, or telling their child look there is the police they'll take you to jail if you don't. . . "

I can say that I don't always like the outcome of a case but it's not my decision. I don't like getting a ticket but when I put my foot down and speed, I gotta sign on that line too. Just b/c a police officer is doing their job by taking someone to jail by the code written for what they did, doesn't mean that they are a bad person. It means they are doing their job. And all of us that work are supposed to do just that, our job. The officer makes the arrest, they don't give the sentence.

Let the Officers do their job, let the justice system people do their jobs too. And maybe if we can get more citizens to just quit being so ugly we can all get along and make the world a better place for all of us.

Thanks for listening and I will step down now.

I haven't had much interaction with Law Enforcement in Rome but I have had quite a bit when my husband was ill, with the Cave Spring Department. They have always gone above and beyound to perform their duty. The CSPD, CSFD and the Paramedics were always there when needed. I'm so glad that they finally got a new Fire Department.

I wondering if I take the little man down there and tell CSPD that he wants to see the station if they would let him? And I wonder if they would notice how excited I was about it too?

In my opinion,  The police are allowed by law to do so much.. They are real live breathing human beings just like you and I.   When they are not on duty I'm sure they don't want to talk about work.  Who wants to bring work home with them or in their leisure time have someone talking to them about things concerning them being the police.  Usually, the ones who don't like the police is the ones who are always in trouble with them!  LOL

We took my oldest grandson to the old fire station and they let him look around and explained things on the fire truck and one of our policemen even rode him around the pool in the police car. He was about 8 years old at the time and it really impressed him.

There is good and bad in everything, but before you can really judge an officer I dare you to get up and walk a mile in his/her shoes. Then after you have had the verbal abuse, the tense threats, and even being shot at you can talk. Until then do like I do and show them the respect they have earned.

Respect must be earned. Every job has stress at some level.

True, but other than the military, law enforcement is the only other profession where you can expect to get shot or stabbed. That deserves some respect one way or the other.

That is one of the big issues with kids nowadays. People now teach their children that all respect must be earned, and our kids grow up learning to disrespect everyone but a few who they feel have earned respect, and who are those few?? Wrestlers they see beating the hell outta people on tv, sports stars driving drunk and shooting people, and so on.
I teach my kids to show respect for all until it is proven otherwise, and while they may not respect a certain person they will always respect the office or uniform.

I agree D. When people have never been taught to respect others, what exactly would a law officer have to do to earn their respect? They earn my respect when they put on that uniform, badge and gun and go out to face this unruly world with no idea if they will return home again. They face those who commit crimes and blame their problems on law enforcement when they are caught, rather than accepting reponsibility for their own actions.

There are officers who will prove themselves to be unworthy of that respect and end up in the news, but they are very few when you consider the number of officers who go quietly about doing their job and no one hears about them.

Agree with D.......................................

Walking around expecting every man or woman I see in uniform to individually earn my respect BEFORE I respect them is ridiculous.....................................and if I had children, and if I raised them that way, I would expect poor results

I agree with you D, I was raised to respect everyone until they were no longer due my respect.

You can't expect the public to respect a group that has such an adversarial relationship with the people that they serve. I think the word that you are looking for is fear.  I respect each of them on an individual basis.  I have never had any problems with the police and have found many of them to be decent human beings.  But what are we saying when we say that.  That they are decent human beings as anyone should be.  Of course it may be because I am a white middle class woman over 40.  If I were young or black, would I have had the same experiences.  As for the point about having a job that you can be shot at, just think how many people in this town alone live in neighborhoods where that can happen every hour of the day and not just 9-5.
