I saw confirmation in this mornings RNT editorial of what I have always known.
The SPLOST vote will be held in an off election yr, as usual. RNT said the residents in county usually vote NO on these. It recommended to get the county residents out to vote yes!! I guess the RNT is saying the county residents would like to keep their pennies in their pockets. But it says the Rome voters want and need to spend everyones pennies.
Remember vote NO, NO, NO!!! During these tough economic times we all need to keep our pennies.

Don't be a dumb a**, vote NO. If the residents of Rome want this, let the city commisioners and their "mayor" raise their taxes. I for one am tired of these SPLOST projects. Give us a break for a while!!

I did not mean to offend anyone with my comment. All I want is for the people to think before they vote. It's time to give the people who spend money in Floyd county a break. I am not sure of the exact length of time we have payed the additional 1 cent, but with the current economic conditions you would think the commissioners would think of the people instead of wanting their names on a plaque to indicate they were in "power" when something was paid for.
Given the recent editorial comment in the RNT, it seems the paper is the ones who thinks the voters in the county are the dumb a#$es.
Several yrs ago, the county commissioners moved their meeting to the daytime. Most people I know who are politically active think this was done to minimize the local citizens input.
Now the city of Rome has a "mayor" who never been elected to such a position!!
All citizens all over this country need to take our power back!!! The power of the government is "for the people, by the people" Not for the politicians by the politicians.
Stand up for your country!!!

BJ, I don't object to your input and quite often agree with you but a moderator, I try to get people to stay within the rules of the forum that are posted at the top of every page. Thanks

It seems this thread has died. So people who spend money their money in Floyd, try to calcuate how much you spend where either weekly or monthly. No mulipy that amount by 1.07 to see what the total increases to.
GIVE US A BREAK!!!!

I am for a 10 cent SPLOST for ten years...maybe then they can really clean this city up. Parts of this city are beginning to look like a 3rd world country.

Maybe they can use some of that stimulus money and the extra property tax money for clean up before they build another bridge or parking deck.

I agree... Or better yet why can't they use the splost to pay that extra property tax that we are going to have to pay... After all they say its not our county or city raising our taxes. Like instead of the bridge or parking deck, use it toward something every one is going to need. Trust me even people that don't own property, they will eventually have to pay because usually the landlord will figure rent with taxes included....

I just don't understand how our government thinks that raising property taxes is going to help with the economy, look around there are already homes just setting empty now because people have no job's or can't afford to keep paying... Every thing has went up except for the paychecks... Check the grocery store prices these days..

I know that some of the people that still have a job has taken a cut in pay just so that they can keep their jobs for now... For example my husband works in a construction  type company and the company that he works for has completely cut out their drive time for example: he is having to drive to Atlanta now and usually is an hour and a half drive to and from and can take longer depending on traffic. Thats 3 hours a day that he was being paid for that he has now lost. The company has also took away most of their vacation and  holiday pay.

So my opinion, I think raising property taxes is going to hurt our economy even worse and I do believe that we will be seeing more and more people with out homes because of this.

As for this splost, its a bunch of bull and its a shame that our county directors are even asking us again. So I will  VOTE NO!
