I challenge all locally elected officials (from top to bottom) to donate their pay back to the people they represent.  Either 1: chose a specific charity or organization to donate your salary to or 2. advise the city/county commissioners and school superintendents you will not accept your paid salaries for a specified period of times.

I also challenge the local elected officials to stop any and all travel or unnecessary expenses during this time.  The business of Floyd County can be done in Floyd County.  The only exception should be travel for required training.  HOWEVER, once the minimum requirements for educational/accreditation hours have been met, a freeze should be put on ANY and ALL traveling expenses.

Lodging: The Holiday Inn Express, Hampton Inn, Jamison......... meals: continental breakfasts, a bag lunch or McDonalds, and dinner: who needs a $30 steak and $20 slices of cheese cake?

So, who will be the 1st to step up to the challenge and say to the state employees of Floyd County, "I know what you are going through during these times hard and here is what I will personally do about it"

Why group all the elected officials in together?
I know the Sheriff and most Judges work more then enough to earn their salaries.

As for the lodging, etc....
Do you have proof of $30 steaks and $20 cheesecakes?
Do you have proof of the high class hotels.

But where did you find the local commissioners travel and expense accounts?

I see that neither my state rep and my state senator had any travel expenses in 2008 or 2009. They earned their salary $17,341.68.

“I believe it’s important to have people in elected office who really care about the condition of our community, and I do,” Lumsden said. - RNT

This is coming from a person with a history of supporting taxation, of buying farm land when we are in a recession, of supporting projects like the "bridge to no where?", of ignoring his own community (Armuchee) and trying to for a project through at the airport? Now, there's apparently a deal in the works for a land purchase where MILLIONS of dollars are owed in back taxes and the county is going to forgive the debt? The list goes on.....

Cares about the community or cares about his political future and what he hopes it holds?

I just read on another news site that three county commisioners, two judges and two school board members are coming up for election.
It was asked on here not long ago about when some of these seats would be coming up for election, so now in the near future, is our chance to get out there and cast those votes.

thanks for the info JJ, which officials are coming up for election in this year and when do they have to qualify. I can think of more than one that I could see my way clear to vote against.

Mathews and Colston are the two judges.

sounds like the kind of election that the SPLOST should have been on the ballot with instead of the election of new dog catcher or whatever no one usually votes for that they usually sneak it by with....

just remember: SPLOST= artificial turf and buying farm land. Also remember we all had a chance to have our taxes DECREASED during a recession, by elimination of the 1% SPLOST tax.... but it was sold to us as a "continuation" not a "new tax".

"caring about our community" is not taxing an spending us to death.  There is always talk about "changing" things.  Well let's do it this time.

Limit all US politicians to two terms..

One in office
One in prison
Illinois already does this.
