Here we go, let's start with knife control and then later expand to gun control. Stop the government intrusion into our lives. How much have you heard about this? Not a lot, I am sure. The legislation was offered as an amendment to the appropriations bill for the Homeland Security Department, which is expected to come to the House floor soon. Just another way to hide an attack on freedom!

Sounds like someone wants to limit imports.

Doesn't affect any of the domestic knife makers like Case, Old Timer, or Buck. Also means more jobs for Americans.

That's the way I read it...

"Customs officials argue the rule deals only with imported merchandise, and thus does not affect knives already in the country or that are manufactured domestically."

Sounds like less of an attack on an American's right to own a switchblade and more of a way to stop non-Americans from bringing switchblades in.

Any knife that has a mechanism that helps you open it quicker will be considerd a switchblade. So if it has a thumb bolt to help open it quicker it will be considered a switchblade.  While the bill discusses imports it bothers me that they are changing the definition of a switchblade. The states that already ban switchblades will most likely add this new terminology to their laws. It is a matter of government trying to inhibit our freedom......

This knife is a Gerber Air Ranger. It is now manufactured in China as opposed to Oregon where they were made for years. Under the new bill this knife will be considered a switchblade because of the easy opening thumb-bolt.

Several knives once touted as "Made in the USA" now state " Made in China". Buck, Gerber and Old Timer are all made in China. A lot of this occured because of NAFTA which is another discussion for another thread.

I guess that Buck that I bought in the early 70's is worth some money now....quit carrying it, kept wearing holes in my back pocket.
