What direction do you think Gov. Palin is headed?
I wish her peace and quiet for awhile. I think she deserves a break. She was thrown into a the Presidential race and has not had an opportunity to breath. I believe that she truly speaks from the heart and has good intentions. She has a tremendous amount to learn but I do wish her well.

I think she'll run for president. There's some reason for this decision.

I think she will run too but she still has a full time job with her family too. Quiting early before finishing her term as governor may also hurt her in a presidential run. Jimmy Carter had good intentions too and seems to be a good man, but I don't think that made him a good President.

She seems like an alright person. I just have never been really enthused by her.. I don't see her running for president. Just like Spice said her quitting being Gov. could hurt her.

I definitely agree that quitting ANYTHING is the wrong move 95% of the time. I believe that many people will say that if you quit being the Gov. then how are we to know that you want quit the Presidency if elected?
Of course, I have watched others do the same thing and still have success: Others have quit their jobs to seek other employment; Ballplayers have quit games and walk off the court or field (Terry Pendleton, Atlanta Braves) and still continue to work (of course Terry Pendleton IS the Atlanta Braves hitting problem, but that's another topic), etc. etc.
I quess my point is some people quit and still come out "spelling like a rose". And yes, if I tried it I would spell like "road kill". haha

I don't think she is built for national politics. She may have been a good governor, but that is not saying much in Alaska, which has a total state population of a a medium sized city like Memphis, and which subsidizes its budget with oil revenues (which she inherited). There are not many hard decisions about budgets, when you have a surplus. Not a bad position to be in, but you are not really being tested or challenged, now are you?
She has been insulated from national and international events in Alaska, and that shows in her lack of knowledge in current events (when Katie Couric asked her what newspapers and magazines she was reading last year.
As for the media coverage of her last year (as well as the Letterman incident this year), I do think it was a little unfair. She invited some of it herself when she made that bonehead national security statement about Putin rearing his head across the Bering Strait.
As for the treatment of her children, they should not be targeted by the media. However, she DOES parade them around like props at her appearances to make her seem more family oriented. Her daughter Bristol's unplanned pregnancy and her hypocritical stance on abstinence was newsworthy.
She has a quirky speaking style, which is either genuine, or staged to make her seem more personable, but personally is very annoying. Golly gee whiz! You betcha!
As for her resignation as governor, I think that she is running away from some scandal or problem that has not become public yet IMO. We will see...

I was really surprised at her announcement yesterday. I watched with amazement. What in the world is she thinking?! I hate quitters... always have! She was voted into office by the people of Alaska and she should honor that by staying in office and working for those folks. Nobody twisted her arm into running for a political office and nobody twisted her arm into running on the ticket with McCain. Politics is an ugly business, and, yes, there was a lot of ugliness displayed towards her and her family.... nothing new there. Look at the crap Hillary had to put up with. Obama put up with. McCain put up with. Etc, etc, etc.
I am another one that can't follow her speeches either. She's here and there and everywhere. If she decides to try and continue a career in politics, especially at the national level, I hope she hires a good speechwriter because, frankly, her train of thought, runs rampant and a lot of the time she makes no sense whatsoever.
As a woman, I'm am extremely disappointed. I personally feel like she just dealt women a major blow when it comes to serving equally with our male counterparts. One of her many reasons for resigning her office was her children. Shame on her! I believe she knew full well that it would be a tough balancing act... copping out in the middle of her term just bolsters the idea that mothers can't do the job. She ticked me off. I was never a huge fan of hers anyway, but the way I feel now, there's no way in the world I would EVER support her for a political office. Quitter. Ick.
Edited to add: I have NO idea what Palin plans on doing since she used several reasons for quitting, so I didn't participate in the poll. From strictly a Saturday Night Live perspective, I hope she runs... it will make for some good laughs. Personally, if she needs to attend to her children, then she needs to spend time raising them and stay out of any type of political office.
BTW, the saying goes.... SMELLS like a rose, not spells...

Can you say multi-task? Obama is doing it. She can't even handle governing an 'easy' state. What does that say about her ability to govern a country?

I totally agree with you WHW, Especially on hiring a speechwriter and her thought process. I was listening to an interview with her during the election and it was like she was totally lost or didn't know what to say when she was being interviewed. What she would reply to didn't make any sense.. Almost as if the questions just went right over her head.. Makes me wonder how she ever became Govenor

Palin's poor interviews were not her fault... it was that shameful, liberal media trying to set her up and dis her. Yeah, right, whatever.

So Palin quits and you wanna be mad at the Prez. Well, that makes a lot of sense. I'm sorry if you don't approve of my opinion of her, but I'm not going to pretty it up just to make you happy. Lucky her... if she runs in 2012, she can count on your vote. I'd be willing to bet that there are a lot of Republicans that despise quitters just as much as I do.

So I should vote for a woman simply because I am a woman? I think that was McCain's way of thinking, too, but Palin still didn't draw Hillary's supporters. Thank goodness he was wrong because I sure would hate having my Vice President resigning.
