RomeNewswire.com seemed to be hitting its stride beginning early last summer.

First the print issue (which I thought was a cool little feature publication) was cancled. Now it seems like the people who were updating the most are gone too.

I know the company was bought and sold, but was most the staff cut too? I used to see that Bell guy out and about a lot for RNW, but now his name is associated with the big news source in town. Did they give him a better deal or something?

Someone told me the forum was part of RNW, so I thought someone here might be able to tell me what RNW has become irrelavant.

The forum has been sold twice since the original owner. The lady who owns it now has had some health problems since taking it over, but from what I understand hopes to get it going again. With her just purchasing it, I don't know that she has the income coming in to pay people to report for her much, though I could be mistaken.

The forum is owned by RNW, but we don't have much more information than that. I know a lot of people here (myself included) have gotten our news from RNW for a long time, and would love to see it brought back to where it was.

What baffles me is the fact that the arrest reports are updated on a daily basis but they seem to run the same picture and story on the front page for at least a week.  The house fire has been up for almost a week now.  I don't even bother getting my news from here anymore.  And I check the forum purely for entertainment.  It is so sad.  But the Rome News Tribune web page rocks!  They are up to date on all the news.  And then of course HomeTown Headlines keeps you up to date on business news.  I think Rome News Wire has lost it's audience and may never get it back again.

I don't want to criticize but, the arrest report is usually there everyday and the photos of those arrested are usually there but there is no meat to the article.  It tells what they were arrested for but not what happened.  It is kind of like a daily Roman Record.  Maybe when Dawn gets well or they get some more reporters then the articles will become more in depth.

And yes the breaking news isn't breaking as often anymore.  I hope that as things progress that it will pick back up again.

Might that not depend on how much information the police are willing to hand out? If it was in-depth then it would be a new article rather than a basic account of the arrest traffic. As it is, we at least find out who is out there messing up. Anymore then it would probably require a full time reporter doing something like a crime beat for a larger newspaper.  Just a thought.

Every criminal arrest has an incident report and/or an affidavit of arrest that details the circumstances of the crime.

OK.  I learn something new every day. :D  Will the police let the person getting this information look at that too?

A. Every criminal arrest has an incident report and/or an affidavit of arrest that details the circumstances of the crime.B. I used to see that Bell guy out and about a lot for RNW, but now his name is associated with the big news source in town. Did they give him a better deal or something?C. The lady who owns it now has had some health problems since taking it over, but from what I understand hopes to get it going again.

A.) That is correct, however the city and county charge a fee for the whole report. What is posted on RNW is the daily jail intake report. When I was doing this I would purchase the full report on items of interest. This was originally set up to be a Daily Roman Record type deal. I twould be a very expensive proposition to purchase the full report on every single arrest. To the best of my knowledge Dan Bobo does the arrests reports daily and of course Hayden does the weekends. I think Dawn had hired another freelance reporter but I have seen him do very little.

B.) Daniel left RNW in September to take a position with RN-T after he was laid off by myself due to a lack of $$$. Daniel was a great guy and good reporter. He wanted his departure handled quietly and it was. Yep, I'm the bad guy.

C.) Yes, Dawn has had some health issues. She was bitten in more than one location by a suspected brown recluse spider. She had a systemic infection that has taken her several weeks to fight off, during this time she also possibly contracted the H1N1 virus, so needless to say she has been seriously sick.

I know when Dawn purchased the site she had intentions of making it grow. I haven't spoken with her lately so I am unsure what exactly is going on but I will find out soon.

There is no charge to see the copies of warrants or affidavits of arrest at the jail for the arrest for that day/night.  The RN-T comes 2 or 3 times a day to check them to get stories.  True, incident reports are at the respective departments but the last I heard there was no charge for these to the press for recent cases.  That may have changed though for the incident reports but they used to just leave copies out for the press.

Yikes. Those are some serious problems.

I called a friend at the city police station. There is no charge for reports for the press once the officer has filed his report in the press room.
